Fuzzy Falls

Snoqualamie Falls is only an hour drive from us, but we had never gone to check it out. It's supposed to be a gorgeous waterfall and with all the crazy snow/rain we had about a week ago, we decided to finally head over to see the falls.

We headed over early on Saturday morning and this time, the drive out there was so different than a few weeks ago when we went skiing/snowboarding! The sun was shining, and there was no snow on the side of the roads. As we slowly made our way through the town of Snoqualamie and towards the falls though, fog was creeping in.

Lo and behold, we should have planned better. The crazy fog shrouded EVERYTHING! We couldn't see any bit of the falls! You could hear the roar of the water, but could see nothing but white mist. What a letdown! We hiked down to the lower viewing platform and the fog cleared up a bit there, but you still couldn't see much of the fall itself.

I was disappointed, but I perked up quite a bit because I had made brunch reservations at Salish Lodge - this luxury hotel perched right next to the falls. It's known because it served as the exterior for the Great Northern Hotel in the TV series Twin Peaks. It also supposedly has a very good dining room.

We were led to an intimate two-top right next to the window which SHOULD have had a lovely view, but instead again we were cheated and could only see mist! No matter though, the brunch ended up being very good. The coffee wasn't hot enough for me, but I liked the little coffee bar it came with and I loaded up on fresh whipped cream and chocolate shavings. My Crab Benedict (on toasted brioche) was decadent and rich and Scott's Smoked Salmon Hash was terrific. I kept stealing little bits of salmon from his plate. The best part of the meal was we had a buy-1-get-1-free dealio so it wasn't nearly as expensive as it should have been. Yay for our Passport Unlimited card!

Ha ha, that happened the first day we went to Yosemite. So much fog (and a snowstorm) that we couldn't see the falls and, like you, we could hear them. We went to the Ahwahnee to eat and couldn't see anything there either. The next day? Glorious.
