Meaty meat pie

While I was getting my hair cut yesterday, Scott decided to check out a pub down the street from the salon called Pies & Pints. It's a place we've been wanting to try since we figured we'd both be happy there - I like meat pies and Scott likes beer! That, and we like the weird joker guy on their logo.

I joined him after my hair was cut and we opted to split the Lamb and Potato Pie and the side of Mac and Cheese. The Pie was DEEEE-lish! Nice and wintery, but not too heavy, with a light, buttery, flaky crust. Too bad it was so tiny! As you can see from the picture, the side of mac and cheese dwarfed the little meat pie. I washed it all down with a good 'ole standby: Pike's Kilt Lifter.

Verdict: Good eats! If this was walking distance to our house or if our local Naked City served these Meat Pies, we'd be there all the time! Scott is already looking forward to my next haircut appt so he can have that as an excuse to go back here.

Getty Malibu

This isn't technically in Seattle, but we thought we'd post anyway!

Scott had not been to the newly reopened Getty Villa in Malibu, so when we were home this weekend, we made reservations to check out the museum. The weather was a bit dreary in the morning, but cleared up just a bit while we were in Malibu and we were able to walk around the pretty gardens and take in the (small) view of the ocean. The objects in the museum were interesting - probably the best part were the exhibits that showed how they restore and piece together the sculptures and vases/cups.
Walking around the museum brought back a lot of memories from Art History class in high school!

Fuzzy Falls

Snoqualamie Falls is only an hour drive from us, but we had never gone to check it out. It's supposed to be a gorgeous waterfall and with all the crazy snow/rain we had about a week ago, we decided to finally head over to see the falls.

We headed over early on Saturday morning and this time, the drive out there was so different than a few weeks ago when we went skiing/snowboarding! The sun was shining, and there was no snow on the side of the roads. As we slowly made our way through the town of Snoqualamie and towards the falls though, fog was creeping in.

Lo and behold, we should have planned better. The crazy fog shrouded EVERYTHING! We couldn't see any bit of the falls! You could hear the roar of the water, but could see nothing but white mist. What a letdown! We hiked down to the lower viewing platform and the fog cleared up a bit there, but you still couldn't see much of the fall itself.

I was disappointed, but I perked up quite a bit because I had made brunch reservations at Salish Lodge - this luxury hotel perched right next to the falls. It's known because it served as the exterior for the Great Northern Hotel in the TV series Twin Peaks. It also supposedly has a very good dining room.

We were led to an intimate two-top right next to the window which SHOULD have had a lovely view, but instead again we were cheated and could only see mist! No matter though, the brunch ended up being very good. The coffee wasn't hot enough for me, but I liked the little coffee bar it came with and I loaded up on fresh whipped cream and chocolate shavings. My Crab Benedict (on toasted brioche) was decadent and rich and Scott's Smoked Salmon Hash was terrific. I kept stealing little bits of salmon from his plate. The best part of the meal was we had a buy-1-get-1-free dealio so it wasn't nearly as expensive as it should have been. Yay for our Passport Unlimited card!

Friendly faces at Green Lake

While on a large loop from our house around Green Lake, May and I stumbled into our friends Lauren and Anne (and Auggie the puppy) whom we had dinner with the night before. It just proves, if you wait long enough, you can see just about anyone people-watching at Green Lake.

May and I enjoyed a nice la-za-roni weekend with the rain. Due to an enormous amount of rain causing avalanches and washing away the mountain snow, May and I decided to do some after-Christmas-sale shopping at the mall and REI to get out of the rain. There were plenty of sales, a bit too dangerous... I'm all stocked up on shirts and Gore-Tex.

Ski season

After a week and a half, May and I returned to Seattle to enjoy a day without snow on Saturday. Enough of this, I need more snow! On Sunday, I convinced May to join me on the nearby slopes at Snowqualmie Summit. May rented some ski's and did quite well... I think she actually enjoyed herself before the 12 degree cold got to her. Brrr. Next time, we'll bundle up more. I managed to slip in a few more runs before calling it a day. It was a slippery ride home, and to our surprise, it had been snowing in Seattle. Three whole inches! Alas, it was short lived. It started to rain this morning and the snow quickly melted.
